The Brereton and District Dominoes League was founded in 1976 and covers the area of Staffordshire which includes Rugeley, Brereton, Armitage, Handsacre and Hill Ridware. It is an amalgamation of several former leagues and plays its matches on Friday nights starting at 8-30pm. Teams of eight players, representing local Pubs and Clubs, compete in a league. Each match consists of four pairs of players from each team competing over the best of three legs. Table one has its own league but the result obtained on that table also count towards the overall match result. The league is designed to get the teams to visit each others establishments for a friendly game of dominoes and to consume various amounts of alcohol. The league runs two knockout competitions, the league knockout, where teams of six players, a pair of players and the team captain compete, and an Open Pairs Competition which is open to any players residing in the area covered by the league. Trophies are awarded for the winners and runners-up in the League and the various knockout competition and the Open Pairs competition carries modest cash prizes. The league normally starts at the beginning of February in each year and continues during the summer months, finishing in October of the same year. The League welcomes interest from any teams within its area who wish to join in what is basically a bit of fun.
